BCA to Support Distribution of 3 Million Insecticide-Treated Nets Across Abia

The Director-General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia (BCA), Mr Francis Nwaubani, says the corporation is committed to partnering with individuals and organizations that prioritise the welfare and health of the people.

Mr Nwaubani stated this in his office when the Social and Behavioural Change Adviser of Malaria Consortium, Abia State, Mr Hilary Chukwu, paid him a visit.

He assured the organization that the corporation would support its planned distribution of three million insecticide-treated mosquito nets across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Mr Nwaubani explained that the present administration in the state, led by Governor Alex Otti, has invested significant resources in equipping and retrofitting primary and tertiary healthcare institutions across the state to improve access to quality healthcare for Abians.

He commended Malaria Consortium for selecting Abia as one of the four states to benefit from the insecticide-treated net distribution programme.

Speaking, the Social and Behavioural Change Adviser of Malaria Consortium, Mr Hilary Chukwu, said the organisation was in the state in collaboration with the Malaria Elimination Programme to support the state with insecticide-treated mosquito nets.

Mr Chukwu disclosed that Abia is among the four states — alongside Borno, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) — that will benefit from the programme aimed at distributing insecticide-treated nets to households to help prevent malaria.

He explained that the visit to the BCA was in recognition of the important role of the media in information dissemination.

Mr Chukwu urged the corporation to support the mobilisation of residents to obtain and consistently use the insecticide-treated nets, as well as help dispel misinformation that the nets are impregnated with harmful chemicals or are injurious to health.

He assured residents that the insecticide-treated nets are safe for use.
