Abia Labor Party holds state Congress with Mr Peter Azubuike as Chairman……fixes National Convention on April 28th, 2026.
The Abia state chapter of the Labor Party has successfully held its state Congress leading to the election of key officials to pilot the affairs of the party with Mr Peter Azubuike from Obingwa LGA as Chairman.

The Congress which was conducted through consensus arrangement has Mrs Ibe Eucharia of Aba North as Deputy Chairman, while Mr Emmanuel Alozie from (Bende) and Mr Okoye Iloabuchi where also elected as Deputy Chairmen representing the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), respectively.

The Governor,Dr Alex Otti while addressing party faithful during the exercise at the Labour Party Secretariat, School road by Ikot Ekpene road Umuahia, expressed satisfaction over the peaceful and transparent conduct of the congress and congratulated the newly elected officials for a smooth and orderly process.

Governor Otti described the outcome of the Congress as the dawn of a new era for the party, harping on the need for unity and cohesion as the exercise marked the end of internal division in the party.

The Governor while assuring the new leadership of the party of continued support, and that his administration would work closely with them to ensure a seamless take-off, also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing leadership led by Sir Emmanuel Nweze-Oti whom he commended for steering the party through it’s challenging period.

“This is the beginning of a new era. Gone are the days when somebody will be pulling from one direction and another will be pulling from another direction. will all pull together.

“One thing you can take for granted is that, like we have always done, we will support our party. We will support the new leadership of the party.

“If there is anything that you need, please feel free to let us know. We want a smooth take-off of the new administration”, the Governor said.

The Governor disclosed that delegates would reconvene in Umuahia for the party’s national convention scheduled to hold on Tuesday next week.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Acho Obioma, traced the process leading to the State Congress, noting that activities began at the ward and local government levels before culminating in the state congress, adding that the consensus arrangement adopted by the party promoted inclusiveness across the state, with most positions zoned to ensure equal representation.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the State Congress, Dr Chibuzo Okereke while noting that the congress is a critical democratic process anchored on provisions of the Constitution, Electoral Act and party guidelines, said that the process complied fully with regulatory requirements and was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Briefing journalists shortly after the congress, The newly elected Chairman Mr Peter Azubuike said with the successful Congress, the party has been positioned and ready to retain the Governorship seat in the state and ensure all round victory in the forthcoming general elections.

He noted that the party under the leadership of Governor Otti is doing great, assuring that the new leadership of the party will strengthen the party through aggressive membership drive to win more people into the Labor Party fold.
The State Congress, which attracted party delegates, stakeholders and observers including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is a major milestone in strengthening the Labour Party’s organisational structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Other executives who were elected at the Congress as deputy Chairmen include Rev. Andrew Ohiagba from Isiala Ngwa North, Dr Kingsley Nwaobilor from Ugwunagbo and Prince Okechukwu from Bende.
Other party officials also include Mr Chuks Akanmadu -Umuahia North, State Secretary, Mrs Nkiruka Olivia Ukaonu -Aba North, Mr O’Brien Iroh -Ohafia as Assistant Secretaries,
Mrs Joy Ngozi Anyanwu -Umuahia South Treasurer and Mr Elvis Nwagbara -Ukwa East State Financial Secretary.
Others are Mr Emenike Iroegbu -Isuikwuato State Publicity Secretary, Mr Ben Ikechukwu Oti -Arochukwu State Organising Secretary, Mr Ndubuisi Nwosu -Osisioma returned as State Legal Adviser, while Chief Ngozi Ananaba -Ugwunagbo emerged as State Auditor.
The rest are Mrs Elizabeth Udo Kalu -Arochukwu State Women Leader, while Mrs Akachi Jacob -Ikwuano, Mrs Lilian Obi -Aba South and Miss Stephanie Nneoma Alilionwu -Bende will serve as assistant deputy women leaders,
Whereas,Mr Uche Nwagbo -Isiala Ngwa South emerged as Youth Leader, with Edith Pamela Adiele -Ukwa West, Mr Ajaero Best Uchenna -Umunneochi and Mr Ezebuiro Chijioke -Isiala Ngwa North) will serve as Assistant Youth Leaders.
