Gov Otti Urges Corps Members to Embrace Skills Acquisition, Innovation at NYSC Batch B Stream I Swearing-In Ceremony

Newly sworn in Corps members have been urged to take full advantage of the training and activities designed to equip them with skills, knowledge and mindset necessary to excel in their places of primary assignments.

The Governor, Dr Alex Otti who stated this during the 2026 batch B Stream One swearing in ceremony for Corps members deployed to Abia State at NYSC Orientation camp Umunnato, Bende LGA, recognised the critical role the NYSC plays in National integration and development.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, advised the Corps members to be creative, innovative and proactive in identifying solutions to the challenges facing society and assured that the present administration is committed to strengthening the scheme and enhancing its capacity to nurture patriotic values in young graduates.

He commended the management of the NYSC for their steadfast, dedication and to ensure that the scheme continues to live up to the lofty ideals and vision of its founding fathers and harped on the need for them to exhibit loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to National ideals.

Contributing, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mrs Jane Igwe said the present administration has shown geniune commitment in youth development and national service, revealing that, the Governor, Dr Alex Otti has shown unwavering support to the NYSC as the administration has intervened in upgrading camp facilities including the renovation of hostels and tarring of internal road network among others.

He encouraged the Corps members to take the orientation camp seriously especially the skills acquisition aspect as it lays the foundation for a successful and impactful future.

Also speaking, the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC),Abia State, Alhaji Yunusa Tanimu said NYSC scheme remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring instruments for National Integration, youth employment, and grassroots development and used the forum to thank the Governor, Dr Alex Otti for his support adding that remarkable successes recorded in infrastructural development in the NYSC camp underscores the premium that his administration places on youth development, human capital development and national service .

Highlight of the event include oath of allegiance administered on the 1,584 Corps members by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Lillian Abai represented by Justice Chido Nwakanma.
