The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has announced that he will officially flag off his campaign for the 2027 general elections next Sunday at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Governor Otti made the announcement while addressing his kinsmen from Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, who visited to congratulate him on his achievements in office and endorse his bid for a second term. He thanked them for their support and confidence in his administration, declaring that he was not afraid of the future because it was already ordained by God.

The Governor noted that the achievements recorded by his administration in the past three years were only the beginning of greater things to come. He explained that his government was paying particular attention to Aba and Umuahia because of their potential to generate revenue to support development across other parts of the state.

He assured the people of Nvosi of more democratic dividends, particularly in road infrastructure and industrial development. He also expressed confidence that the Abia Airport project would be completed by 2028.

Earlier, the Labour Party’s senatorial candidate for Abia Central, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, said the gathering provided an opportunity for the people of Nvosi to appreciate the Governor for his achievements and express their solidarity with his re-election bid in 2027.

Nwokocha said the people of Nvosi were proud of Governor Otti’s accomplishments, noting that he had brought recognition to their community and Abia State through his achievements in governance. He assured the Governor of their support, describing his second-term ambition as a foregone conclusion.

In their separate remarks, community stakeholders, including Dr Gashen Amuta, Elder Ishmael Onuoha and Elder Israel Nwogwugwu, described Governor Otti as a source of pride to Nvosi. They said his accomplishments in academics, governance and other fields had brought honour to their community and urged him to remain focused despite what they described as attempts by the opposition to distract his administration.

Other stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr Ikechukwu Monday; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Dr Obioma Nwogbe; and the Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Aba Zone, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, described the gathering as a meeting of Nvosi people across political divides.

They said their collective objective was to ensure Governor Otti’s re-election in 2027 to enable him to continue his administration’s development programmes across the state.

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Mrs Evelyn Amaike, commended Governor Otti for giving women in Nvosi a greater sense of belonging. She also praised his administration for prioritising teachers’ welfare, noting that their conditions had improved considerably under his leadership.
