Dr Alex Otti has inaugurated the State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council for the 2027 election

The Governor, Dr Alex Otti has inaugurated the State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council for the 2027 election, with himself as Chairman and the deputy Governor Chief Ikechukwu Emetu as Vice Chairman.

Other members of the Campaign Council include a former Speaker Abia House of Assembly Chief Agwu U. Agwu as Director-General, Dr. Eric Egwuibe, Director of Finance, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili – Director of Strategy/Planning, and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mr. Kelechi Nwaiwu as Director of Legal.

The rest are Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka-Director of Publicity, Dr. Christian Anokwuru-Director of Special Duties, Retired while Assistant Inspector General Arungwa Nwazue is Director of Security.

Speaking while inaugurating the Council at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, Governor Otti reminded members of the Council that though they were chosen based on merit, there are also many others among them who are qualified for the same responsibility , describing them as best among equals.

He charged them to work with the party structure, government appointees, stakeholders, Youth and women groups, all the candidates, leadership of different pro-groups, including his campaign structure the Abia Arise in their various localities, adding that Candidates for other positions are also free to set up their campaign organizations.

The Governor noted  that the activities surrounding the 2027 elections must be peaceful, pointing out that unlike what obtained in the past, he has directed relevant security agencies to provide a level play field for all to aspire, warning that no form of violence would be tolerated.

Governor Otti further said that unlike in 2023 which was all about promises, the 2027 campaign will be issue -based as his administration has tangible things already done to campaign with, urging members of the campaign Council not to be misled by the propaganda machinery of the opposition.

He announced that in the next few days government will come up with an advisory Campaign Council to be headed by the immediate past Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu who will be entrusted with the responsibility of galvanizing stakeholders for the total victory of the party.

In his speech on behalf of the Council, the Director-General, Chief Agwu U. Agwu while thanking Governor Otti for finding them fit for the responsibilities assured that they will exceed their expectations as the Governor’s sterling achievements in office have already done half of the job for the Council.

Our Government House Correspondent, Ezechukwu Adimoha reports that Zonal Coordinators of the Council are Abia Central: Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna, Abia North: Chief Emeka Charles Kalu and Abia South: Mr Chimaobi Ebisike while twenty-four Coordinators were also inaugurated for the twenty-four State Constituencies.
