Abia Govt Warns Public Over Fraudulent Online Birthday Cash Transfer Invite From Otti
Abia State government has issued a public disclaimer and fraud alert over an online cash transfer as a birthday gift from Governor Alex Otti.
In a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the state government warned the public not to follow the link as it is fake, fraudulent and not from the Governor.
The release stated that the message currently circulating online claiming, “Gov Alex Otti 61st Birthday Celebration Cash Transfer – Gov Alex Otti Giving Out ₦65,000 to Nigerians… Powered by: Otti Foundation… GET CASH HERE.
“With links https://rhud.info/65k-Birthday-gift and https://mpesa.info/Otti-Birthday-giftp is false and fraudulent.”
It clarified that the Abia State Government, Governor Alex Otti, and the Alex Otti Foundation have not authorized, initiated, or endorsed any cash transfer, birthday giveaway, or ₦65,000 payment through any website or link, warning that the domains http://rhud.info and http://mpesa.info, are not official Abia State Government or Alex Otti Foundation domains, but phishing sites designed to steal personal information, bank details, BVN, OTPs, and money from unsuspecting victims.
It drew attention to the risk involved in clicking the links or entering details, which can lead to financial loss, identity theft, and unauthorised access to bank and mobile money accounts.
“The general public is strongly advised to ignore, avoid, and refrain from sharing the message. Do not click the links or provide any personal or financial information.
“All official information, announcements, and programs of the Abia State Government are published only through the official Abia State Government website and verified government social media handles.”
