Govt Adopts Regenerative Agriculture

The Governor, Dr Alex Otti says his government prioritizes regenerative farming practices, soil health restoration and climate-smart interventions that reduce dependence on chemical inputs while enhancing productivity.

Governor Otti who disclosed this during the 2026 annual general meeting of the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners Of Nigeria held in Umuahia said the agrarian economy of the State has been repositioned to embrace sustainability, inclusivity and innovation.

The Governor represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Cliff Agbaeze noted that the state has invested in empowering small Holder Farmers through access to credit, extension services and training in organic method as well as integrating them into a digital database.

The State Chief Executive further stated that the Conference provides a unique platform to share knowledge, showcase innovations and build partnerships that will accelerate the transition to sustainable food systems and wished them fruitful deliberations in the state.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi represented by Professor Atanda Lawal said the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to boost food security in the face of adverse climate change and stressed the need to embrace organic Agriculture, ensure equitable access to healthy and nutritious food, sustainable livelihood and environmental protection.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi commended members of the Association for their commitment towards advancing organic Agriculture and safe food systems in Nigeria and noted that agriculture plays a vital role in food security, economic diversification and job creation.

Earlier in a welcome address, the President of the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners Of Nigeria, Professor Jude Obi reminded their members that they are not just debating about agronomy but also designing the survival, health and economic prosperity of Nigeria and revealed that they will use the ceremony to officially unveil their digital Marketplace sponsored by AfroNet and the Agroecology Fund.
