ABIA – The state government held an interdenominational thanksgiving Service in commemoration of the 3rd year anniversary of the progressive and result-oriented government of Governor Alex Otti.

Speaking during the service organised by the Abia state Government in Umuahia, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to serving God and fulfilling promises made to the people and the state at the inception of his government.

The Governor said that upon assumption of office, his administration rededicated the state to God and made vows aimed at ensuring divine guidance in governance, adding that thanksgiving and worship remained a personal conviction for him and his family.

He announced plans to commence the construction of an ecumenical centre in Umuahia, pointing out that the project would be privately funded without any financial contribution from the state government.

The Governor said he has already provided the land for the project and that the land was acquired by him in 2009 long before he became governor and appreciated the President of Living Word Ministries International, Dr Emma Okorie, for his support and prayers over the years.

In his sermon titled “Where there is no vision the people perish”, The President, living Word Ministries International, Dr Emma Okorie, described the governor as a “God-sent” on a mission to deliver Abians.

Dr Okorie said God brought Governor Otti to rescue Abians from the maladministration of the past governments in the past 24 years, describing the emergence of Governor Otti as governor as a sign that God heard the cry of the people of Abia in the past 24 years.

He also described the governor as a man with a divine mandate, vision and a servant to the people of Abia focused on transforming the state.

The Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Dr Michael Ukpong, urged Gov. Alex Otti and members of his administration not to be distracted from doing good, assuring them of God’s guidance and support.

Bishop Ukpong said that with God’s strength, no enemy would be able to overpower the governor and his team if they continued to trust in God and remain committed to good works.

The thanksgiving service which was attended by the wife of the Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, the Deputy Governor,  Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, top government officials, Abia fathers of faith including Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko, featured praise and worship sessions, testimonies and prayers for the state, the governor and his family.
